Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs)
These are virtual or in-person group appointments on a shared topic or diagnosis of interest. Participants are patients of the practice who consent to and receive education and counseling from a practitioner of the practice. It is a way, covered under insurance, to learn from the presenter as well as other patients with the common condition. These are billed as a regular office visit to your insurance, though we will usually waive co-pays for this service.
Known Benefits of SMAs:
- Significant and impactful health education
- Longer time in conversation on important topics impacting your health
- Interactive learning and support from peers as well as health professionals
- Enhanced self-management skills (practical tips)
- Improved health outcomes
