We’ve figured it out before and we will do it again. Remain calm, read as much as you can from vetted sources, and take the good precautions we are well accustomed to at this point.
There are a few individuals, other than your trusted BWPC clinicians, who can help filter through the media blasts.
- Consider subscribing (free) and following Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, MPH PhD, an epidemiologist, biostatistician and professor who puts out a very well-written regular newsletter with good practical information. https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/
- Certain podcasts are balanced and science-based such as KevinMD.com. This was recorded on 11/28/2021 about the Omicron variant. https://kevinmd.libsyn.com/omicron-2-infectious-disease-physicians-on-the-new-covid-variant
Today, the CDC changed the recommendation for COVID-19 Booster Shots to be recommended for EVERYONE AGES 18 and older if it has been at least 6 months after receiving your primary vaccine series (or 2 months from after J&J dose). This is because there is theory that the current vaccines are still effective against severe disease and possibly the newly discovered Omicron variant.
BWPC continues to be able to provide the Moderna booster dose at our offices on certain days. Please call the main office number to be scheduled. You may also get the vaccine at the local pharmacies if you prefer.
What can we do in the meantime if I am afraid of infection risk? Even post-vaccination, consider masking in public crowded settings like grocery stores, flights, or other larger gatherings. Testing is readily available when concerned about previous or future contacts to help lessen the spread. See our COVID-19 Page for suggested sites.
For those who test positive to COVID-19 (by testing outside of BWPC) and are looking for clinical guidance, we will aim to be able to accommodate your questions by scheduling a telehealth appointment so that we can collect the important context necessary to best advise you. This is also necessary for any referrals for monoclonal antibody treatment.
When will we know more? We will take it day by day and week by week as the newest research unfolds. This is an important life lesson for many personal challenges and is the best coping strategy. Celebrate your current health and wellbeing. Work on proper nutrition, good sleep, regular exercise and immune boosting de-stressing techniques. We will keep living and learning!
